Kimberlee S. Williams is a marketing and public relations professional based in New Jersey whose company, FEMWORKS, is the premier multicultural and LGBT marketing agency in the region. She has over 10 years of business development experience in multicultural markets, media relations, and creating strategic alliances. Mrs. Williams helps shape the way corporations, organizations and individuals communicate with multicultural and LGBT men and women of color.

The Working Group is comprised of seven Census Bureau representatives, including Becca Palmer, June Dowell-Burton, and Ben Suazo, Partnership Specialists specifically working with the LGBT community in the region.

Census representatives are seeking to recruit members from the LGBT community in order to form a 2010 Census LGBT Complete Count Committee (CCC) in the region. Thousands of CCCs are forming nationwide to encourage full participation in the 2010 Census.

Refreshments and light snacks will be served compliments of the LGBT Center and Q-SINY, respectively.

Art In The Atrium Opens Tomorrow in Lincoln Park

The Highly Acclaimed Show Kicks Off Newark’s “Open Doors”

Newark, NJ, October 21, 2009 – Art in The Atrium (ATA) opens on Thursday, October 22 and kicks off the 2009 annual “Open Doors” Art Festival. The ATA opening includes an opening reception on Thursday, October 22, and after-party at Brick City Bar and Grill, and concluding on Sunday, October 25, in Newark. Featured works are by Chris Cumberbatch, of Above the Surface Design, located in Long Island, NY, also an ATA exhibiting artist whose focus is on eco-friendly, sustainable products. The showcase, located in the LPCCD “green” building at 460 Washington Street, Newark, is free and open to the public. The hours for the weekend are Thursday and Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

For ATA, the Open Doors Weekend event is a pre-show activity in advance of its 18th annual art exhibit and sale of fine art by African Americans in Morristown, the largest show of its kind in New Jersey. The collaboration with LPCCD is an opportunity to spotlight the work of Chris Cumberbatch as an emerging artist and to increase the visibility of Art in The Atrium to northern New Jersey audiences.

Lauren Craig, a spokesperson for ATA states, “We are excited at Art in the Atrium, Inc. about our participation in this year’s Open Doors event. ATA has enjoyed a long-time connection to the Newark art community through Newark native, the late Russell A. Murray, a prolific artist who was an ATA founder and curator and a teacher at West Side High School, as well as through the many artists that live and work in Newark who have exhibited in our annual exhibition for the past 18 years.”

Many of Cumberbatch’s works are painted on found objects, using Mystic paint, an environmentally sound product. The exhibit includes sculptural trees and large wall hangings. The artist explained, “My focus is the duality of eco-consciousness and spiritual consciousness. It’s an awareness of the richness of the earth and all that it contains for humanity…I want to hit a pulse of …emotion and spirit by fusing figures and nature, especially trees.”

Mr. Cumberbatch’s firm, Above The Surface, provides creative designs in decorative painting—wall illusions that resemble stone, marble and granite, and colorful murals—for several celebrity clients, among whom are Comedian, Actor, Radio Personality and Author, Steve Harvey; Singer/Rapper and Actor LL Cool J, and Sean “Diddy” Combs, legendary rapper, screen and stage actor and successful entrepreneur.

Anthony Smith, director of LPCCD Community Affairs and Operations said, “Lincoln Park is leading the way in eco-urban development. The environmentally-friendly art of Chris Cumberbatch is directly related to the LPCCD mission to develop an urban eco-arts district. When ATA expressed a desire to collaborate with us in presenting this artist’s body of work to this year’s Open Doors event, we agreed with enthusiasm, viewing it as an opportunity for broader exposure for the important work that is underway in the Lincoln Park Arts District.”

FEMWORKS Principal Preps Entrepreneurs in Green Business Opportunities

NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 7, 2009 – Today during the Institute for Enterpreneurial Leadership “Celebrate Entrepreneurship Day” activities at NJPAC’s Chase Room, Kimberlee S. Williams, Principal and Marketing Director of FEMWORKS, joined with Lincoln Park colleagues to present the “Grow Green Business” panel – featuring Baye Adofo-Wilson, Executive Director of Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District and Robert Wisniewski, Director of Sustainable Development, LPCCD, and Kimberlee S. Williams of FEMWORKS. The panel discussed the history of the Lincoln Park Coast organization, how it has evolved its products in a challenging economic climate, and the marketing and business partnership opportunities that continue to exist.

“A viable avenue for a growing firm to participate in the green business movement is to audit its own energy use plan. Create a business operation that is streamlined and more energy sustainable. Another opportunity for a new firm can include providing professional services specifically targeting other green businesses with your products and services,” comments Kimberlee S. Williams of FEMWORKS.
