LITUFC Open Door Drop-In Center Collaborates for World AIDS Day
NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 3, 2009 – Capitalizing on a day-long calendar of local WORLD AIDS DAY events on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, the Open Door Drop-In Center (DIC) of Liberation in Truth Unity Fellowship Church successfully collaborated with three organizations to increase local visibility and recruit potential new clients and volunteers. In its primary collaboration with the Urban Issues Institute of Essex County College, the DIC used a multimedia approach to attract students to its table in a busy corridor of the college. Video projections of “Greater Than AIDS” and “Test 1 Million” public service announcements, featuring recognizable celebrities including President and Mrs. Obama, attracted dozens of junior college students to the table over the course of four hours. United Way of Essex And West Hudson Receives $290,000 PSEG Foundation Award
NEWARK, N.J., Nov. 18, 2009 – United Way of Essex and West Hudson (UWEWH) is proud to announce that PSEG Foundation has awarded the organization a grant of $290,000. The seven benefiting agencies are: Vacamas, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Essex, Hudson, and Union Counties, Barat Foundation, Harambee Community Development Initiative, Inc., Northern New Jersey Council Boy Scouts, God’s Promise Community Development Center, and Boys and Girls Club of Newark. These organizations were awarded funding under one of the following three areas: the Initiation or Increased use of Homework Help New Jersey, Staff Training and Development, and Environmental Stewardship/Energy Awareness. NEWARK, N.J., November 12, 2009 – “Coming Out and Speaking Up”, hosted by the LGBTIQ Caucus at Rutgers School of Law Newark, was a dynamic event attended by over 200 Newark residents. Several panels of residents, experts, and activists discussed the social and legal issues facing Newark’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender youth.

Social and Legal Issues Facing Newark’s LGBT Youth
NEWARK, N.J., November 2, 2009 – On Thursday, November 5, 2009, from, 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM, the LGBTQ Caucus of Rutgers School of Law—Newark will host a FREE event titled “Coming Out and Speaking Up”. The mission of “Coming Out and Speaking Up” is to educate the City of Newark on the social and legal issues facing Newark’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender youth. The event also seeks to inform Newark’s LGBT Youth of their legal rights in school, the workplace and throughout the city, and to suggest steps to take when encountering violence or discrimination.
